1. Huntsville school merger plan raises questions
As part of Huntsville City Schools' 10-year capital plan, some schools would consolidate, including Chapman and Blossomwood Elementary campuses. Parents met with Superintendent Dr. Clarence Sutton and other leaders to voice their concerns and ask questions on what the changes might mean for their children.
2. Alabama gets tougher on human trafficking
Gov. Kay Ivey this week signed into law the Sound of Freedom Act, which raises the penalties for first degree human trafficking. Ivey says the new measures make Alabama's the "toughest in America."
Also this week in the Alabama Legislature: A post-Steve Perkins bill aimed at making police body camera footage more easily accessible by the public died in Montgomery.
3. Helping those struggling with homelessness
A new affordable housing project just authorized in the City of Huntsville will provide 42 units for some of the community's most vulnerable families.
4. Savings to the Maxx in Athens
A brand-new TJ Maxx store opens Sunday morning on Kelli Drive, for those of you who like to do a little retail therapy on the weekends.
5. Gate changes at the Arsenal
Gate 10 will temporarily close at Redstone as a result of staffing changes.
