UPDATE: North Alabama schools and businesses closing early: Tuesday, October 25, 2022

Some schools and businesses are closing or dismissing early Tuesday afternoon due to the threat of severe weather..

HUNTSVILLE, Ala — The entire Tennessee Valley is under a Wind Advisory ahead of the opportunity for strong and severe thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon and early Tuesday evening. Some schools have decided to dismiss early or cancel after-school activities. 

We will continue to update these changes.

Albertville City Schools: Albertville City Schools has cancelled all afternoon activities scheduled after 4 p.m. due to the threat of inclement weather.

Arab City Schools: Due to the threat of severe weather, all Arab City Schools' after-school activities and Extended Day Programs are canceled today, October 25th.  Please stay safe and weather aware.

Athens City Schools: Due to the threat of inclement weather, all after-school activities are canceled on Tuesday, October 25, 2022. This includes all practices, games, meetings, and latchkey. There are no plans to release school early. 

Athens State University: Due to the threat of severe weather, Athens State University will be moving all classes to remote instruction and campus will close at 2:00 pm.

Boaz City Schools: Due to the threat of inclement weather, Boaz City Schools Extended Day is canceled for today, Tuesday, October 25, 2022. 

Calhoun Community College: Due to today’s threat of severe weather, effective at 2:00 p.m., Calhoun Community College is transitioning to virtual learning via Blackboard. Employees will transition to remote work.

Colbert County Schools: Due to the high risk of severe storms today, all Colbert County schools will dismiss at 11:30. All bus routes should be completely finished by 1:00 pm. According to officials, this is a fast moving storm. If there is an “all clear” by the end of the day, extracurricular activities may resume. The afterschool programs will be canceled for today. 

Decatur City Schools: Decatur City Schools will dismiss early today, Tuesday, October 25, due to the threat of dangerous straight-line winds expected to move through during normal dismissal time. 

Elementary schools will release students at 1:50 p.m., and middle and high schools will dismiss at 2:40 p.m. All after-school activities, including extended day, are canceled.  

DeKalb County Schools: All after-school activities are canceled.  

Florence City Schools: All K-6 students will be dismissed at 12:00 PM Tuesday, October 25, 2022. This includes W.C. Handy School. Students 7-12 will dismiss at 12:45.

Franklin County Alabama Schools: Dismissing at 12:00 PM Tuesday, October 25, 2022

Hartselle City Schools

Due to the threat of severe weather, HCS will release early today.
Pre-K -1:00, Elementaries - 1:30
HIS, JHS, & HHS - 1:45 p.m. 

Buses will run regular routes. 

Extended Day and all afternoon activities are canceled.

Huntsville City Schools:

Huntsville City Schools and offices will dismiss early on Tuesday, Oct. 25 due to the threat of severe weather.

Dismissals will occur at the following times: 

  • 12:30 p.m.: Elementary schools
  • 1 p.m.: Middle and junior high schools (including all grades for AAA and ASFL)
  • 1:40 p.m.: High schools

Buses will be running for all schools. All after-school activities, extended day, and athletic events will not occur. 

Huntsville City Schools BOE Meeting Scheduled for 10-25-22 is postponed to 10-26-22 at 5:00 p.m.

Jackson County Schools: Due to the potential threat of severe weather, ALL Jackson County schools will dismiss 1 HOUR EARLY today - Tuesday, October 25th. There will be NO AFTER SCHOOL activities.

Lauderdale County Schools: All Lauderdale County Schools will dismiss today, Tues. Oct. 25, at 11:45 a.m. There will be no extracurricular activities after school today.

Lawrence County Schools: Lawrence County Schools will dismiss at 11:45 today. We are concerned the high winds will impact bus travel this afternoon. All afternoon activities have been cancelled. Please stay weather aware.

Limestone County Schools: Limestone County Schools will dismiss early, Tuesday, October 25, 2022. Elementary will dismiss at 1 p.m. followed by high school at 1:20 p.m.  

Madison City Schools. Pre-K students will dismiss at 12:00 PM, Elementary students will dismiss at 12:30 PM, and secondary students will dismiss at 1:15 PM. After-school activities including extended day are canceled.  

Madison County Schools 

  • High School and Middle School campuses will dismiss at 12:00. 
  • Elementary schools and Intermediate schools, including Pre-K, will dismiss at 1:00.

MCSS will provide bus transportation for students who usually ride a school bus.

Muscle Shoals City Schools:

Due to the threat of severe weather conditions this afternoon, 10/25/2022, the Muscle Shoals City Schools will begin a staggered dismissal at 12:00 p.m. starting with our elementary schools (dismissal schedule below).

Muscle Shoals High School & Career Academy

No extended day services will be offered today.

Extracurricular activities may resume after 3:30 p.m. provided the weather front has moved through the area.

Northwest- Shoals Community College: Due to the threat of severe weather in Northwest Alabama and out of an abundance of caution, Northwest-Shoals Community College will close both campuses at 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, October 25th. 

Russellville City Schools: Dismissing at 12:00 PM Tuesday, October 25, 2022. All after-school activities at West Elementary and Russellville Elementary will be canceled.

Scottsboro City Schools: Will dismiss one hour early Tuesday, October 25, 2022

St. John Paul II Catholic High School will close at 1pm today, Tuesday, October 25, 2022.

Tuscumbia City Schools: Dismissing at 12:00 PM Tuesday, October 25, 2022
