HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Temperatures will continue to fall as we progress further into the evening and the overnight. As temperatures fall it is likely that many across the Tennessee Valley will see a transition from a cold rain to a rain/snow mix. This is something we have seen mixed reports of this afternoon, but should become more prominent as we head further into the evening.
It is likely that pavement surface temperatures will be too warm for any accumulation, but there could be some light accumulation tonight and early Friday morning. The best chance for this would be across the higher elevations of North Alabama and Southern Middle Tennessee. This does include locations like Monte Sano in Huntsville. At max accumulations in the areas that could see would could be near an inch. Everyone else is stuck dealing with a very cold rain tonight and Friday morning.
The rest of Friday will be nothing more than a gray and cold day across the Tennessee Valley. After starting in the mid-30s we'll only climb into the lower 40s. We should be in the lower 50s even at this point in January.
There will not be much change in temperatures through the weekend and early next week. Expect temperatures to remain well below seasonal norms.
