MADISON, Ala — The city of Madison will begin its 2021 Street Sweeping Program on the week of January 11.
Weather permitting, the street sweeping will be completed in about 8 weeks. The city is asking residents not to park on or place any items in the streets from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
According to the city, Yard debris, trash receptacles and recycling bins should be placed directly behind the curb for weekly pick-ups. The street sweepers will drive around any blockage within the street and will not return to sweep areas not swept at a later date.
The city said this program is aimed at improving the quality of stormwater runoff through the removal of contaminants from the street. Leaves, grass clippings, trash and fertilizers should be kept away from all ditches. Additionally, the city said you should never dump motor oil, chemicals, pet waste, dirty or soapy water, or any other contaminants into a storm drainage system.
