1. Demonstrators, police clash at Decatur's Third Friday

Catrela Perkins, the widow of Steve Perkins, was briefly detained last Friday as a group supporting her efforts for justice in the wake of Steve's fatal shooting by a police officer walked into the 3rd Friday street festival. They were quickly met by officers (see #3 below) and three people were ultimately arrested during the confrontation.

2. Statutory rape charge for now-former Madison County school employee

A woman later determined to be an employee with the Madison County School System was found in a car late at night with a minor later confirmed to be a student. Further investigation led to evidence of sexual text messaging and behavior.

This story broke just days before another educator - the Arab High School head football coach - was arrested after allegations of inappropriate communications with a student.

3. Complaints filed over behavior of Decatur officer

Civil rights activists including the president of the Morgan County NAACP single out Lt. Joe Renshaw for alleged "unprofessionalism" and "harassment," including verbal threats, during the 3rd Friday incident.

Decatur Mayor Tab Bowling has since issued a statement regarding his thoughts of the incident, saying in part, "All our residents are entitled to peaceful and orderly protest, but in my opinion, that was not the case."

4. Did you know three Alabama escapees remain at large?

The three men you see pictured above escaped in 2015 and 2018, respectively, and according to Alabama Department of Corrections records are still free. We've included information on their escape here - if you think you recognize them, contact your local law enforcement.

5. Alabama's most recent escapee has been recaptured

ALDOC says Thomas Davis escaped from North Alabama’s Community Based Facility Wednesday night.

Thomas Lashawn Davis escaped the North Alabama Community Based Facility on Wednesday, according to officials. He was located in Georgia on Friday.
