Crestwood Medical Center resumes elective surgeries as COVID numbers drop

High numbers of patients canceled much-needed care, but now it's time to put your health first.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Hospitals in Huntsville are starting to offer elective surgeries to patients as COVID numbers continue to drop in the area.

In August, the Huntsville Hospital system halted elective surgeries or non-emergency procedures due to an uptick in hospitalizations.

Crestwood Medical Center CEO Dr. Pam Hudson said the hospital's latest report was much more favorable than it has been in the past.

"Overall in our county, we have 50 patients that are inpatients. 16 of those are in the intensive care unit, and ten are on ventilators," said Hudson.

If you have postponed getting care or screenings, Hudson says this is the time to rededicate yourself to your own health.

"Madison county is surrounded by other counties that are still in the high transmission rates, so it is important to keep that in mind as you do your planning for any kind of traveling or gathering," said Hudson.
