First-career weekly award comes after 113-yard passing performance, comeback win.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Alabama A&M quarterback Xavier Lankford was named SWAC Offensive Player of the Week.

In A&M’s comeback 24-20 win against Texas Southern, the Pelham, Ala. native threw 113 yards on 6-for-8 (75%) passing. Two of his seven rushes resulted in touchdowns. With 76 yards gained on the ground and three additional on a catch, Lankford accumulated 192 total yards.

This is the first P.o.t.W. honors for Lankford and the third this season for the Bulldogs. Sophomore running back Donovan Eaglin and senior linebacker Dre Terry earned P.o.t.W. awards on Oct. 13 and 17, respectively.

Other weekly winners for the final week of the regular season were Jackson State’s Justin Ragin (Defense) and Travis Hunter (Newcomer) along with Mississippi Valley State’s Orlando Fernandez (Specialist).

With the win in the season finale, the Bulldogs finished 4-7 overall and 4-4 in SWAC play. The league record earned them fourth place in the East division. And a three-way tie for fifth-best record league-wide.
