Love it or hate it, candy corn has been a fall staple for more than 100 years. So how did it become a seasonal sweet with staying power?
The company now known as Jelly Belly produced the very first candy corn around the year 1900. It took a long process and a lot of man power to create the sugar Corn Syrup Marshmallow concoction. But it first went by a less appetizing name, Chicken Feed, and was a year-round treat. It didn’t become a Halloween staple until the 1950’s when sugar rations from World War II were lifted, and kids started the tradition of going door to door collecting candy.
Today, Candy Corn is made by machine but with the same basic ingredients, proving its a recipe that stands the test of time, and taste buds.
