Students at UAH are celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month by learning more about the culture.

Today, students heard from a panel of community leaders who talked about their own experiences living as Hispanic Alabamians.

The panel talked about the challenges they faced growing up from speaking a different language to the color of their skin. They also shared memories of good times and say it’s important to teach others about Hispanic heritage.

Briseida Y. Ruelas has lived in Alabama for over 10 years. She said, “You can have a room full of hispanics and they will all have different stories. Those struggles is what makes you and those struggles are what makes this country what it is.”

Some of the panelists will also be at the Hispanic Festival at Big Spring Park Saturday October 5th from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
