A new law in Alabama would keep people from getting criminally charged if they break into a car to save a child. It’s aimed at protecting kids from being trapped in danger or while suffering harm.
There are a few important notes in order to avoid criminal charges. The door must be locked, and the child must be incapacitated and have no way to get out of the car. You must also have reason to believe the child is in danger or suffering harm. After breaking in, you would also have to stay with the child until first responders arrive.
The new law goes into effect this fall.
