Tanner man charged in brother's shooting

TANNER, Ala. — A Tanner man was arrested for allegedly shooting his brother in the abdomen with a .22 rifle.

Ricky Stanford, 58, is charged with assault 1st degree.

Limestone County Sheriff's deputies responded to an assault call at around 6:30 p.m. Saturday evening.

According to the Limestone County Sheriff's Office, the victim, Ricky Stanford’s brother, had a gunshot wound to the abdomen. They say the two brothers had gotten into an altercation when the victim was shot. 

He was transported to Huntsville Hospital and is expected to recover.

Ricky Sanford was taken to the Limestone County Jail  He was released Sunday on $25,000 bond.

   


Also arrested in Limestone County was a Huntsville man suspected of set his ex-girlfriend’s vehicle on fire in August, which also resulted in the fire damaging her home and another residence. 

According to the Limestone County Sheriff's Office, Calvin Burns, 40, is charged with arson 1st degree, criminal mischief 1st degree, and burglary 2nd degree. He was released from the Limestone County Jail Monday on $37,500 bond.

They say that on August 3, Limestone County deputies and the East Limestone Fire Department responded to a car fire that spread to a house fire in the 28000 block of Chasebrook Drive. The victim stated that she and her daughter had just gotten home when she heard an explosion. She told deputies she saw Burns, her ex-boyfriend, from a window in the residence.

Investigators contacted the fire marshal to look into the cause of the fire. The fire marshal determined the fire to be arson.

Investigators obtained probable cause and warrants to arrest Burns.
