SCOTTSBORO, Ala. — The Scottsboro Police Department, under the leadership of Chief Ron Latimer, has announced the upcoming 23rd Annual Citizen Police Academy Program. This program offers local residents and businesses an opportunity to gain insight into the workings of the Scottsboro Police Department and the legal system.

The program, limited to 30 participants, is free of charge and aims to educate citizens about the challenges faced by police officers, relevant laws, the judicial system, and emergency management. Through interactive sessions, people will engage with officers, detectives, and other personnel in a non-traditional law enforcement environment. Some classes will involve hands-on activities and require active participation from students. The Scottsboro Police Department seeks to establish a robust relationship between the community and itself, using this program as a means for mutual involvement and education.

The 9-week program will take place every Tuesday at 6 p.m., starting from March 19, 2024, through May 14, 2024. Additionally, the community will have the opportunity to engage in a 6-hour minimum Ride Along Program. Interested individuals must submit their applications no later than March 8, 2024. Applications can be accessed online here or in person at The Scottsboro Police Department, located at 916 South Broad Street, Scottsboro, AL 35768.
