Schools of Guntersville delaying start back date

The Schools of Guntersville is pushing back their back-to-school start date from August 12th to August 25th.

GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. — The Schools of Guntersville is delaying their back-to-school start date from August 12th to August 25th.

The setback is due to maintenance issues at both elementary schools.

The Schools of Guntersville Superintendent Brett Stanton says they're dealing with mold at Guntersville Elementary School and asbestos in some bathrooms at Cherokee Elementary School.

There is a silver lining. They say they're utilizing the extra time by doing more training.

"We've got quite a bit of professional development with virtual learning through schools PLP, so we'll be working on professional development over the next several weeks," said Stanton.

Teachers will also have more time to work in their classrooms before students start back to class.
