UPDATE: North Alabama, Tennessee Valley school, business delays, changes, closings for Jan. 6-7, 2022

Some North Alabama school districts and businesses have adjusted their schedules to accommodate winter weather on January 6 and January 7.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Some schools and businesses are changing their schedules on January 6 due to winter weather moving into the Tennessee Valley Thursday.

School Closures, Delays for Jan. 7:

Albertville City Schools

Albertville City Schools will have Weather Event E-Learning Days on Thursday, January 6 and Friday, Jan 7, 2022.  All students, faculty, and staff will be working remotely on these 2 days

Arab City Schools

Based on guidance from Marshall County EMA and the National Weather Service, Arab City Schools will transition to eLearning tomorrow, Thursday January 6.  All ACS campuses will be closed.

Athens City Schools

Update: Due to the inclement weather conditions, Athens City Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay Friday, January 7. Bus pick-up times, employee reporting times, and school start times will be delayed by 2 hours.  

Boaz City Schools

Due to the threat of inclement weather, Boaz City Schools will have an e-learning day tomorrow, Thursday, January 6.  Students will work from home TOMORROW. They will NOT report to school.  Schools will NOT be open.

Calhoun Community College

Due to the threat of wintry weather conditions, the physical campuses of Calhoun Community College will be closed on Friday, January 7, 2022.

Cullman County Schools

Update: Cullman County Schools will have a remote learning day tomorrow, Friday 1/7, due to the weather. 

Decatur City Schools

Update: Decatur City Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay Friday, January 7th. 

DeKalb County Schools

DeKalb County schools will transition to virtual learning for Thursday, January 6, and Friday, January 7, based on the guidance from the DeKalb County Emergency Management Agency. They predict that hazardous road conditions due to freezing precipitation could develop as early as 10:00 AM Thursday.

Drake State Community & Technical College

Due to the threat of wintry weather conditions, Drake State Community & Technical College will open at 10 a.m. Friday, January 7, 2022.   

Florence City Schools

After reviewing information from the National Weather Service in Huntsville regarding possible inclement winter weather, Florence City Schools will be closed on Thursday, January 6, 2022. This decision is being made out of an abundance of caution for students, families, faculty, and staff. We will continue to monitor conditions through Thursday before a decision is made for Friday.

Grace Lutheran School and Child Development Center

Grace Lutheran School and Child Development Center will be closed on Thursday, January 6.

Guntersville City Schools

Guntersville City Schools will operate as an e-learning day on Thursday, January 6.

Hazel Green High School

School will be closed on Thursday, January 6th. This includes all extracurricular activities.

Hartselle City Schools

All students and staff of Hartselle City Schools will have a Virtual Learning Day on January 6, 2022

Huntsville City Schools

Update: Huntsville City Schools (HCS) will remain in e-learning on Friday, Jan. 7 due to the threat of winter weather and hazardous road conditions. 

Out of an abundance of caution, Huntsville City Schools (HCS) will transition to e-learning on Thursday, Jan. 6 due to the potential of winter weather. All teaching and learning will take place virtually, and students and employees will not report to campuses.

Principals will share more information related to e-learning at each school. Any events previously scheduled to occur on campus will be rescheduled or postponed. 

Employees who can perform their duties remotely will work from home. Any employees unsure about expectations should contact their direct supervisor.  

Jackson County Schools

Due to the threat of inclement weather, all Jackson County schools will be learning via their e-Learning platform on Thursday, January 6, and Friday, January 7.

John Paul II Catholic High School

St. John Paul II Catholic High School will be closed (no school) on Friday, Jan. 7, 2022.

Limestone County Schools

Update: Due to lingering effects of winter weather and extreme temperatures, Limestone County Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay Friday, January 7.  

Lincoln County Schools

Lincoln County schools will be closed Thursday, January 6, 2022.

Lindsay Lane Christian Academy

Update: Lindsay Lane Christian Academy will be on a 2-hour delay on Friday, Jan. 7.

Grades PreK through 4th will not have class on January 6. Grades 5th through 12th will be on virtual learning.

Madison City Schools

Update: Madison City Schools will hold a virtual day Friday, Jan. 7 

Madison City Schools will hold an asynchronous virtual learning day for ALL students tomorrow (Thursday, Jan. 6) due to the potential for hazardous winter weather. School campuses will be closed. 

Madison County Schools

Update: Out of an abundance of caution for our students and staff, Madison County Schools will remain closed on Friday, January 7, 2022. Extremely cold temperatures overnight will freeze any moisture left on roadways, and that will lead to the potential for black ice. We feel it is in everyone’s best interest to err on the side of caution rather than put family members in danger.

Marshall County Schools

Marshall County Schools will transition to e-learning for Thursday and Friday, January 6-7, 2022.  We realize the inconvenience this may bring for some families; however, safety will always be our number one priority.  Thank you and I hope everyone stays safe!

Muscle Shoals City Schools

Muscle Shoals City Schools will be closed on Thursday, January 6, 2022. 

Northwest-Shoals Community College

Due to the threat of deteriorating road conditions, Northwest-Shoals Community College will delay opening tomorrow, Friday, January 7th, until 10 a.m. for the Phil Campbell and Shoals campuses. The College will continue to evaluate the road conditions.

Oakwood University

Oakwood University classes will be held virtually on January 6.

Russellville City Schools 

Update: Russellville City Schools will operate on a 2-hr delay tomorrow, Friday, Jan 7, 2022 due to the possibility of dangerous road conditions and extreme cold temperatures. Schools will open, begin, and drop-off times will be, exactly 2 hrs from normal times. 

Scottsboro City Schools

Due to the possibility of winter weather conditions, Scottsboro City Schools will transition to e-learning days on Thursday, January 6, and Friday, January 7, 2022

Sheffield City Schools

Sheffield City Schools will be closed Thursday, January 6, 2022.

Shoals Christian School and Daycare

Shoals Christian School and Daycare will be CLOSED tomorrow. All afterschool activities are canceled. Stay safe and warm!

St. John Paul II Catholic High School

St. John Paul II Catholic High School will be closed on Thursday, January 6, 2022.

Tuscumbia City Schools

Due to the threat of treacherous road conditions, all Tuscumbia City schools will be closed on Thursday, January 6th. Please stay safe and weather-aware. A decision about school on Friday, January 7th will be made sometime Thursday afternoon and we will broadcast any closings or delays at that time.    

University of Alabama in Huntsville

Due to the threat of inclement weather The University of Alabama in Huntsville will continue remote operations on Friday, January 7.

Business, City Service Closures for Jan. 6 and Jan. 7. 

Marshall Space Flight Center

Due to anticipated winter weather conditions, MSFC will operate in mandatory telework status Fri, Jan 7th.

Huntsville

City of Huntsville: Due to the threat of inclement winter weather, City of Huntsville municipal offices will close at 2:00 p.m. today, Jan. 6.

Huntsville Municipal Court will suspend operations Thursday, Jan. 6. The court will send out rescheduling information to anyone affected by today's closure in the coming days.

Huntsville Municipal Offices will open on a two-hour delay on January 7. Fixed-route Orbit Transit and Access paratransit services will also be on a two-hour delay.

Huntsville Transit fixed-route bus and paratransit service will suspend operations at 3:00 p.m., with the last Orbit buses departing the transfer station at 2:00 p.m. Friday operations will depend on weather conditions. Customers should monitor the City website for more information. 

All Parks & Recreation afternoon activities have been canceled.

Huntsville/Madison County Visitors CenterDue to inclement winter weather, the Huntsville/Madison County Visitor Center, Huntsville International Airport visitors kiosk, and Huntsville/Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) administrative offices will close at 12:00 p.m. today.

Visitors are encouraged to follow CVB social media channels for updates on attraction closures.

Huntsville Ice and Sports Center will close at 4 p.m. on January 6.

The Marshall Space Flight Center will operate in mandatory telework status on Friday, January 7.

Madison County

Due to forecasted deteriorating road conditions throughout Madison County, the Madison County Courthouse, Service Center, and all County offices will close at 1:00 p.m. today, January 6, 2022.

City of Madison

The City of Madison facilities and activities will shut down by 5pm today, Thursday, January 6th for weather. Officials are evaluating conditions for tomorrow (Friday) and will make an informed decision for operations as soon as possible.

Limestone County

Due to inclement weather, all Limestone County Offices, Court System and Senior Centers will close today, January 6, 2022, at 1:00 p.m.

City of Athens

Municipal Court Judge Don Mansell has opted to cancel city court scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 6, because of potential winter weather. Those who were supposed to be in court will receive a new court date.

As of now, City of Athens offices will be open regular hours. If that changes because of weather conditions, another notification will be sent.

City of Arab

All Arab Rec basketball games and practices are canceled tonight January 6. 

7-8 girls playing in Guntersville is also canceled.

BUSINESSES:

Greater Ardmore Chamber of Commerce

Due to the threat of winter weather, the Greater Ardmore Chamber of Commerce will be closed tomorrow, January 6.  

US Space and Rocket Center

The US Space and Rocket Center will be closed on Thursday, January 6.

The entire Tennessee Valley will go under a Winter Weather Advisory at 4:00 AM Thursday and that'll run through 6:00 PM Thursday. The biggest concern will be frozen precipitation on roadways that will cause travel concerns.
