Defense and technology companies in Huntsville create drone defense technology

SAIC and SCI Technology create drone defense technology that can be used to detect and capture drone threats in the airspace.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Here in the Rocket City, we are known for our technology and innovation.

SAIC hosted a demonstration with one of their partners, SCI Technology, sharing how drone technology could help defend the community and the country.

Greg Fortier, VP of Operations for SAIC Huntsville says, "as the threat continues to evolve and the terrorist threat continues to evolve both domestically and internationally, we continue to evolve at a very rapid pace."

He shares their drone technology can help both at the civilian and federal level.

"If there's a border threat, we can respond to it. If there's an airport threat, we can respond to it. If there's an international threat, we can respond to it. If there's a base somewhere, a critical site here in the United States or elsewhere, we're ready to do it," Fortier said.

SAIC's drone defense technology is ready to go, they utilize artificial intelligence software to locate drone threats on a map.

And SCI Technology has a big role in this technology.

They've created a fighter drone, called "AeroGuard" that detects and captures other drones from the airspace.

Max Klein, the Chief Technology Officer for SCI Technology says, "the system AeroGuard was actually designed and developed by SCI here in Huntsville at this facility. We did all of the manufacturing of the components here. We do flight testing in our backyard."

This AeroGuard system is currently deployed by the U.S. Government.

Both companies say they've worked closely to create this system for customers interested in protecting their site.
