Huntsville City Schools students still enjoying free, reduced-price meals through national program

Students at 36 city school campuses have access to meals at no charge, with applications still accepted for eligible students at five others.

Huntsville City Schools is reminding families of students they can still take advantage of money-saving meal services throughout the district. HCS continued its participation in the Community Eligibility Provision of the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program through the summer of 2024.

Students at 36 campuses within the Huntsville district receive breakfast, lunch, and snack or supper (where available) at no charge under this program. Students at the following campuses can submit an application to determine their eligibility for the program:

  • Goldsmith-Schiffman Elementary
  • Hampton Cove Elementary/Middle
  • Mountain Gap Elementary/Middle
  • Huntsville High School
  • Monte Sano

"CEP is a key provision of the Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010, which allows schools in low-income areas to eliminate school meal applications and serve breakfast and lunch at no charge to all enrolled students," the district said in a written statement. "Breakfast and lunch meals will follow the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) guidelines for healthy school meals, so please encourage students to participate."
