MADISON COUNTY, ALABAMA, Ala. — Madison County District 3 Commissioner Craig Hill is hosting a Handle With Care Collection Day, along with giving out free Flu Shots for residents of Madison County.
Since household hazardous waste items do need to be disposed of in a specific way, District 3 is partnering with the Solid Waste Disposal Authority if Huntsville to try and reduce the amount of toxicity that ends up in our water.
For hazardous waste, it will be a drive-thru service where workers will take it from your car. The event will be at the District 3 Shed, located at 149 East Walnut Street in New Hope on Friday, October 30 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Shots will be distributed by the Madison County Health Department. Participants are asked to bring their insurance card and are required to wear a mask. The Flu shots will be available from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Hazardous items that can be collected are:
- Oil or water-based paints
- Mineral spirits
- Turpentine and thinners
- Furniture strippers
- Paint removers
- Stains and aerosols
- Transmission fluid
- Brake fluid
- Anti-freeze
- Car batteries
- Used motor oil
- Weed killers, liquids, powders, sprays soaps, herbicides, pesticides, fungicides, rodent poisons, and roach/flea powder
- Oven cleaner
- Toilet cleaner
- Disinfectants
- Drain cleaner
- Rug and upholstery cleaners
- Floor and furniture polishes
- Ammonia or bleach-based products.
- Televisions, computers, computer monitors
- Acids
- Pool chemicals
- Photographic chemicals, solvents
- Household batteries
- Mercury thermometers
- Thermostats
- Fluorescent lights- both CFL’s and linear
A Chick-fil-A food truck will be on site where you can buy lunch starting at 11:00 a.m.
