ATHENS, Ala. — The Athens Lions Club's grounds will be missing the sounds of children laughing, squealing and running around this Summer. Due to concerns regarding the spread of Covid-19, club members decided to cancel their annual Kiddie Carnival.

It was scheduled to run on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights from June 18 to August 1. The carnival features family entertainment geared towards toddlers and young children with ten rides, cotton candy and sno cones. It has been a staple in Athens for years.

This would have been the 61st season. Lions Club members say it was a very difficult decision, but it was necessary considering social distancing policies, attendance management that would go along with that and constant sanitizing efforts.

Families flocked to the Athens Lions Club's Facebook page to reminisce and share stories. The Kiddie Carnival is a major fundraiser for the club.
