Decatur High School student earns Regional Hispanic Heritage Youth Award

DECATUR, Alabama — A student at Decatur High School is being honored by the Hispanic Heritage Foundation's Youth Awards.

The awards honor high school seniors for their excellence in several categories, including the following:

  • Business and Finance
  • Education
  • Engineering
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Health Care and Science
  • Media and Entertainment
  • Public Service
  • Social Justice
  • Technology

Each category awards a gold, silver and bronze award to three students.

Sydni Díaz, a Decatur High School student, earned the bronze award in the health care and science category. The award-winning students will be honored on February 25 during a virtual ceremony from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

“We are thrilled to honor yet another outstanding class of Youth Awardees who will carry on the tradition of excellence from past recipients,” said Hispanic Heritage Foundation President and CEO Antonio Tijerino. “There is no shortage of Latino talent across the United States and we are grateful to our dedicated sponsors who understand the importance of investing in the youngest and most dynamic segment of our population. We’re in good hands as a community and as a country with these outstanding young leaders going forward.”
