Local nonprofit AshaKiran hosts holiday supply drive for victims of domestic violence

With all of these shopping holidays going on, many people are going ALL OUT but on the flip side, many are going WITHOUT. AshaKiran aims to fix that.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — AshaKiran is hosting a holiday supply drive. The nonprofit helps victims of human trafficking, sexual assault and domestic violence, especially within the foreign-born community.

These victims often leave dangerous situations, forcing them to turn to AshaKiran with nothing but the clothes on their backs.

So, this supply drive was put in place to ensure that those survivors have the proper winter gear, and personal items this holiday season.

The group is currently asking for new and unused items only, such as:

- Robes and flip flops for both men and women

- Winter items such as hats, gloves and scarves for men, women and children

- As well as pajamas for men, women and children

- Blankets, diapers, wipes and toys

The supply drive will run from November 22nd to December 20th, 2021.

"You might be out you know, buying things for your children and it's such a good thing for you to do, especially if you are shopping with your children to say, hey, instead of buying this toy for myself, why don't I pick out a toy for somebody who might really need it and who has never had something like this," said an Outreach Advocate for AshaKiran, Emily Griggs Howard.

By donating to the supply drive, you will help to keep 'A Ray of Hope' alive for these brave individuals who are trying to create a new, hopeful, healthy life for themselves. AshaKiran translates to 'A Ray of Hope.'
