Athens seemed like a ghost town today with all the businesses in the area closing down early.
One hot spot did stay open. Joe’s World Famous Pizzeria on Highway 72 was the only business on that road open today.
Restaurant owner Joe Carlucci said he saw a handful of customers and made a few deliveries. As a small business owner, Joe said he does not have the luxury of closing down shop for a day.
“I’m a business owner and if I don’t show up for work, I don’t make money, if I don’t make money I can’t pay my bills, I can’t pay my employees. I’m not a big company, so I don’t have those breaks,” said Joe Carlucci.
Joe did allow his employees to have the day off though. He’s originally from up north and says he doesn’t mind the snow. If you’re hungry he plans to have the restaurant open all week.
