Alabama A&M breaks ground on new Welcome Center

The building will house the administration workers, making it a ‘one-stop shop’ for student needs.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala — Alabama A&M is breaking ground, marking a new building that school officials say will serve as the ‘front door’ of the University.

Alabama A&M is marking the ground for its new Welcome Center. 

The building will house the administration workers, making it a ‘one-stop shop’ for students who need help.

The new center will have retail space, restaurants, and a conference area. 

State and local leaders stopped by to help move some dirt! 

Alabama Representative Laura Hall of District 19 says, "It is an honor for me to be here and to say ‘thank you’ on behalf of all those citizens and individuals who will become or their children will become student of Alabama A&M.”

Rep. Anthony Daniels of District 53 says, “...To see it go from the event center to the welcome center… I think any student from Alabama  A&M or anywhere else will walk on this campus and be impressed.”

Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle shared some words during the ceremony about  “Our biggest challenge today is workforce development. Where are we going to find workers to fill the jobs that we’ve been able to bring into the city of Huntsville? We’re going to find them right here.” 

The new center will be on Meridian Street.
