U.S. Army Space & Missile Defense Command Change of Command Ceremony

There is a new Lieutenant General taking over at Redstone Arsenal's U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command.

HUNTSVILLE, Alabama — There's a new Lieutenant General taking over at Redstone Arsenal's U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command. During today's Change of Command Ceremony for the retiring Commanding General, the new Lieutenant General  accepted SMDC's command colors.

Retiring Lieutenant General Daniel L. Karbler assumed command of the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command and Joint Functional Component Command for Integrated Missile Defense on December 6, 2019.

Lieutenant General Karbler said faith has played a major role. "Faith has been a big part of what we do. Put the trust in God,  and he's seen us through for the last ten months and really for the last 40 years."

In spite of all his accomplishments, he explained that there is only one reason he is who he is today. "I am who I am today because of them. My mom, my dad, and Linda [stepmom]."

SMDC has also played a significant role. "So with that, I just want to tell you thanks for your friendship, thanks for your great support to the Karbler family. I look forward to being part of this Huntsville community for a bit longer, and with that, I tell you, secure the high ground and remain vigilant for the world. Thank you."

Lieutenant General Sean A. Gainey will be filling Lieutenant General Karbler's shoes and shares the main priority moving forward. "It's always about the great people across our force, and this command. And this is how we will continue to seize the high ground, and be all we can be. So thank you, and I look forward to the challenge."
