Pilot killed in Hartselle plane crash identified

Community asked to use caution around the Garner Road/Blueridge Road area.

MORGAN COUNTY, Alabama — Morgan County Coroner Jeff Chunn has confirmed that the man killed in a Friday morning plane crash was identified as 75-year-old Douglas Chapman. He was a Decatur resident.

The Morgan County Sheriff's Office said on social media just before 9:30 a.m. that the small plane Chapman was piloting crashed in an area near Hartselle Airport.

A public safety alert was posted for Hartselle and is the sheriff's office is asking the community to use caution around the Garner Road/Beard Road area. 

An investigation is ongoing.
