More housing opportunities now available in the River City

Morgan County business leaders welcomed the first townhome development in downtown Decatur today.

DECATUR, Alabama — The River City is steadily developing, and one way that this is happening is by the 18 new townhomes that have been developed right here in downtown Decatur on Bank Street. The Decatur Morgan County Chamber of Commerce say that these two and three bedroom units will provide more modern and updated living for residents. Decatur Urban Ventures Managing Partner Yogi Dougher said, "The idea was to add some upper end housing to Bank Street, and to solve a housing need that Decatur seems to have." Dougher also believes that in order to have a community … you need one thing... people.“ To me, to have a community, you need to add people to the community and then [have places] for them to gather and shop. There is so much happening on Bank Street [that is] in the works and planning [stages], and some [new businesses] that are about to open. [For instance], the Social Market across the street  is a  large scale restaurant, I mean, a huge kitchen,  and they'll be doing lots of catering and takeout, but also a restaurant in there. "

Merithouse Realty Broker & Owner Jamie Reeves said this development is also a plus especially for those young professionals moving into the area. "Also for those who are wanting a little less upkeep  and a little less maintenance, gives them the ability to travel. So not only is this a great development for young professionals, but also for maybe some empty nesters, too. This is our first residential single family development in downtown Decatur in as long as we can remember specifically when it comes to the townhome units," she added.

"To me, the most important thing is the renaissance of Bank Street," Dougher continued.

The Decatur Morgan County Chamber of Commerce explained that these 18 townhomes on Bank Street feature open floor plans, spacious bonus rooms and rooftop terraces. The two-and three-bedroom units provide modern and updated living just steps away from dining, shopping, parks and the Tennessee River.
