GUNTERSVILLE, Ala. — UPDATE 10/17/2023: The Guntersville Police Department confirmed that a man named Colt Carroll has been arrested for murder after the body of 42-year-old Faleisha Thompson, was found around 1:30 a.m. in the area of J.W. Darnell Avenue in Guntersville. An investigator says that Carroll has been in custody since shortly after Thompson was discovered and was arrested after a murder warrant was obtained. Carroll is on his way to the Marshall County Jail.
Marshall County Coroner Cody Nugent has confirmed the body of an Athens woman was found in a ditch early Monday morning.
Nugent said the body, identified as that of 42-year-old Faleisha Thompson, was found around 1:30 a.m. in the area of J.W. Darnell Avenue in Guntersville. Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene.
The coroner said the case is being investigated as a homicide by the Guntersville Police Department, with the cooperation of the Alabama Department of Forensic Science.
GPD will release more information as it becomes available; no other details were immediately released.
