Deadline for Driver Safety Scholarship Program coming up

Three scholarships will be awards to students with the best essays.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Write an outstanding essay on distracted driving and you could win money for college.

The 2022 Driver Safety Scholarship Fund from Morris, King & Hodge, P.C.announces its essay program to reward deserving students with scholarship money while also raising awareness of the dangers of distracted driving.

Morris, King & Hodge, P.C. says it will award a total of $4,200 in three separate scholarships to "the Alabama high school seniors and first-year college students who write winning essays about ways to raise awareness of the hazards of distracted driving and prevent the dangerous practice."

The first-place winner will receive a $2,000 scholarship, the second-place winner will receive $1,200, and $1,000 will go to the third-place winner. This is the eighth year of the program

Who can apply?

High school seniors and college freshman in the following counties:

  • Dekalb
  • Franklin
  • Lawrence
  • Colbert
  • Cullman
  • Jackson
  • Lauderdale
  • Limestone
  • Madison
  • Marshall
  • Morgan 

To participate in the program, applicants must submit an original 1,000-word essay on this topic:

“How can we educate our community about the dangers of distracted driving and what are some practical ways we can drastically reduce distracted driving related accidents?”

Who is judging?

A panel from Morris, King & Hodge, P.C., and associated parties will judge the submissions on content, correctness of facts, grammar, style, and originality. Judges will look for clear, original essays that are logically organized and well-supported.

The deadline for submissions is April 15, 2022. The firm will announce this year’s winners on May 2, 2022.
