Travel is always a concern during weather events, whether you’re going on the road or in the air. Huntsville International Airport understands and works to make travel as trouble-free as possible.

One of the most frequent questions people have is, “Will my flight be able to leave?”

Jana Kuner, PR Manager at Huntsville International Airport, shared what the airport does in case of winter weather. “Huntsville International Airport has many provisions in place to be sure that we are able to keep at least one of our runways open in the event of ice and snow. These measures include heavy snow equipment, deicing solution and more.

“We are always prepared for these events and closely follow the NWS and other local media for the latest updates.”

The airport also offers the second longest runway in the southeast, which is an advantage for landings of large jets.

HSV makes the very latest flight information available to you on their website. This allows you to see the most recent information about any arrivals or departures at Huntsville International Airport.

Kuner also wants to remind travelers that some delays or cancelations may be a result of weather conditions at other airports and or because a flight could not get here for whatever reason.

Huntsville International is also a diversion airport. This means that it is centrally located and available for flights that are en route to other airports to land here in the event that weather does not permit them to land where originally intended.
