One person sustained smoke inhalation Monday morning in an apartment fire in Athens.
Athens Fire and Rescue responded to the fire call at Oakleaf Apartments on Elkton Street at 9:29 Monday morning.
Athens Fire and Rescue Chief Bryan Thornton said firefighters David Kress and Brandon Wilson heard someone moan and felt the man on the floor in the kitchen. They rescued the man who was transported to Athens-Limestone Hospital.
The fire was in Apartment 23. Thornton said Apartment 24 sustained water damage.
Since the fire resulted in an injury, the Alabama State Fire Marshal’s office will conduct an investigation as to the cause of the fire.
