FLORENCE, Ala. — The University of North Alabama French Film Festival is gearing up for its seventh year, running from March 4 to March 20 at the Wesleyan Hall Auditorium. Each screening will happen at 6 p.m. and will feature English subtitles. Dr. Stephanie Coker, Associate Professor of French and one of the festival's organizers, expressed her excitement for the event, noting its ability to unite the UNA community and local residents in the enjoyment of French cinema.

“I am delighted to see this event bring together the UNA family and the local community to enjoy films in French,” Coker said. “Selections this year include classic films, dramas, a comedy, and a mystery/thriller. We hope to have something for everyone.”

The festival kicks off on March 4 with the screening of The Innocent, followed by a French-themed reception starting at 5 p.m. The grand finale on March 20 features the screening of the 1961 classic Last Year in Marienbad. As a sweet treat, the Jeff Eubanks Culinary Arts Department will prepare a special dessert for people to take home at the end of the festival.

Here's the lineup:

  • Monday, March 4: The Innocent (2022)
  • Wednesday, March 6: Saint Omer (2021)
  • Monday, March 11: Casablanca Beats (2021)
  • Wednesday, March 13: Paris Memories (2022)
  • Monday, March 18: Chocolate (1988)
  • Wednesday, March 20: Last Year in Marienbad (1961)

Dr. Coker expressed gratitude for the widespread support: "We appreciate the support from many different departments and offices across campus. One highlight of this festival is hearing from UNA faculty in various disciplines who lead the discussion with students and community members after each film."

Admission is free for UNA students, faculty, staff, and community members, after a grant from the Albertine Cinémathèque program of the FACE Foundation and Villa Albertine partnership with the French Embassy in the United States.
