Production of new Mazda vehicle announced in Huntsville

The new Mazda CX-50 will be assembled at the North Alabama Mazda Toyota Manufacturing plant.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — A new Mazda vehicle is joining the lineup at North Alabama Mazda Toyota Manufacturing plant.

Mazda's CX-50 is a new crossover that, according to MTM Vice President of Administration Mark Brazeal, will be produced in the U.S. and, "assembled right here, in North Alabama by our MTM team members.” The MTM plant, as a joint venture partnership between Mazda Motor Corporation and Toyota Motor Corporation, is the only one of its kind in the world.

Jobs are still available at the facility. Eventually, MTM will employ 4,000 team members in North Alabama, and they are currently looking to hire 1,200 people.

“Our team members have knocked this out of the park,” said Janette Hostettler, Vice President of Production. “They are working at the only automotive plant in the world that builds two brand new vehicles on two separate lines. To say I’m proud of what they’ve accomplished would be an understatement.”

According to MTM, the North Alabama facility will have the ability to produce up to 300,000 SUVs once it reaches full production. The Mazda CX-50 will be available in dealerships in spring 2022.

Mayor Tommy Battle is proud to witness the growth of the Rocket City first hand.

"The great thing is we're adding 4000 multi-family residential units, were adding over 2500 single-family residential units," Mayor Battle said. "So as we add them to our inventory we're able to keep up with the growth that's coming in."
