Need school supplies? Back-to-school supply drives and giveaways

Celebrate the new school year with a back-to-school drive!

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The time is nearing for kids to go back to school and what better way to celebrate a new school year than a back-to-school drive!

Get ready for back-to-school with CNI Solutions on August 1st! 100 back-to-school braided hairstyles will be provided free of charge to 6th-12th grade students. Services are by appointment only. You can make an appointment by visiting www.cni-solutions.org and signing up under events or by calling 256-459-6020.

Rising Stars Tutoring & Say IT Sow are hosting a Back 2 School Big Jam July 31st from noon until 3 PM. Free hair braiding and free haircuts will be provided as well as a bounce house! Free food and free backpacks will be provided as well as numerous giveaways throughout the afternoon. Multiple vendors will also be there to enjoy.

Free 2 Teach is a local organization that helps public school teachers in Madison County with their school supply shopping year round. From July 16-July 31, Bridge Street Town Center is collecting items for Free 2 Teach. You can also donate to Free 2 Teach all year.

The most needed items are Crayola markers, crayons and color pencils, composition notebooks, graph paper, student scissors, glue sticks and pencil boxes, but Free 2 Teach also offers office supplies, kleenex, books, and classroom decorations. You can drop off your donation at Athleta, J. Jill, Kendra Scott, Mountain High Outfitters, Orvis, Soma, Urban Cookhouse or the Bridge Street Management Office. You're invited to post a selfie with the donation bin using the hashtag #B2SwithBridgeStreet to be entered into a drawing to win a $250 gift card to one of the participating retailers.

You can help Stuff the Bus for Morgan County students! The Morgan County Schools Foundation is looking for donations of new school supplies to benefit Morgan County students in need. The Big Day is August 7, but contributions can be made at any time. Barrels are at various drop off locations throughout Morgan County, all listed above.

Throughout the remainder of the month of July, Piper & Leaf will be collecting school supplies for the Kids to Love "More than a Backpack" initiative. Supplies can be dropped off at all 4 Piper & Leaf store locations every day in July.

The Huntsville Police Department (HPD) will host its annual Back-to-School Supply Drive during the month of July. The department is seeking donations of backpacks, pencils, pens, markers, notebooks, and other supplies. HPD also seeks coats for students to have during the winter months. Supplies will be donated to Huntsville City Schools and distributed to teachers and students throughout the year. Donations can be dropped off at the following locations through Friday, July 30:

  • Public Safety Complex: 815 Wheeler Ave., Huntsville, AL
  • North Precinct: 4014 N. Memorial Pkwy, Huntsville, AL
  • South Precinct: 7900 Bailey Cove Road, Huntsville, AL
  • West Precinct: 2110 Clinton Ave., Huntsville, AL
