Athens High School senior is Coca-Cola Scholarship Semifinalist

Katie Crews is an Athens High School senior.

ATHENS, Ala. — Congratulations to Katie Crews, a senior at Athens High School, for being named a semifinalist for the 2022 Coca-Cola Scholarship.

The scholarship is worth almost $20,000, and Crews is one of 1,617 students selected from over 68,000 applicants from across the country.

"I made it through the first phase which was 68,000, and now its down to 1,600 hundred," Crews explained. "So I just submitted my application for phase two and then from the 1,600 it'll go down to 250, and then we'll go to Atlanta and have to do interview there and it's like a little conference and then from there they'll chose the 150 Coca-Cola scholars."

She has taken several AP classes throughout high school, and is the captain of the dance team at Athens High.

Crews is currently deciding between Auburn University and The University of Alabama. Her father, Tim Crews, went to Auburn, and her mother, Mechelle Crews went to Georgia Tech.

“The Coca-Cola Scholarship Program is highly competitive amongst the nation's top students. I am thrilled, although not surprised, that Katie has been named as a Coca-Cola Scholarship Semifinalist. She is a hard-working, dedicated, and multi-dimensional student who has excelled both in the classroom and beyond. She represents Athens High School at its best,” AHS Counselor Laura Lou Smith said.

Crews will find out in the next few months whether she has been awarded the scholarship.
