Former Hartselle Medical Center scheduled for demolition

Asbestos removal will begin at the facility on Friday, March 5. The demolition project is expected to last approximately five months, according to Powers.

HARTSELLE, Ala. — Decatur Morgan Hospital Kelli Powers announced on Thursday that the former Hartselle Medical Center building will be demolished after it was closed in 2012 and purchased by the Huntsville Hospital System.

Asbestos removal will begin at the facility on Friday, March 5. The demolition project is expected to last approximately five months, according to Powers.

Decatur-Morgan Hospital said the property will be landscaped once the building is taken down. Powers said no decision has been made yet regarding the property's future use but they're working with the mayor and city of Hartselle.

Capella Healthcare closed the facility in 2012 before it was sold to HHS.

The hospital's original building was constructed in 1953.
