Ah February, the month a rodent tries his best to do my job and the month of love. Take it from me guys, she doesn’t need a fancy gift. The heart shaped pizza, and her favorite snack will do just fine. I speak from experience.
It’s also February 1, 2019 which means if you’re a faithful reader of this fine piece of writing then you already know what today’s topic will be on, so I guess we can jump right into it.
We’ll switch things up this month and start with rain because I have a feeling everyone is going to assume it was some sort of record-breaking month in terms of rainfall. While we did see some big rain days like January 19th which brought 2.69” and January 23rd which brought another 1.69” we didn’t break any records. With 7.15” it was the 18th wettest month on record which I guess is in the top 20, but still not that terribly impressive.
In terms of what we need for January we well surpassed that seeing a surplus of 2.26”. Thanks to the snow day that wasn’t, we only picked up trace amounts this month. That did happen three times though so it’s worth a mention.
Where do we begin with temperatures? This month felt like we lived in northern Russia (that was the first really cold place I could think of). We only saw 13 days where the temperature was above average. That would lead one to believe that the month was colder than average, but that wasn’t the case either. The average high temperature for January is 51.2 degrees, and the average high temperature for January 2019 was 51.6 degrees. So, if you want to get super technical we were above average by 0.4 degrees.
The warmest days this month occurred back to back with a pair of 66s on January 6th and 7th. The coldest day was January 20th where the high was just 36 degrees. The other point of mention would be January 29th. That was the day we were supposed to see snow. The official high was 47 degrees. That high temperature occurred at 12:15 AM which of course is technically Tuesday. From there the temperature fell the rest of the day. The low was 24 degrees and that occurred at 11:55 PM Tuesday.
Alright time to look ahead to the month of love. First off, Krispy Kreme is offering heart shaped doughnuts with the little sayings on them in replacement of that nasty candy. I feel the need to state that this is not a paid endorsement, and I’m merely trying to suggest you replace candy with doughnuts because……doughnuts. Need I say more? Also, how does one spell doughnut? Because Spell check says doughnut is correct, but it also says donut is correct.
Anyway, we’ll see our average temperature rise 7 degrees this month, and we’ll also see more daylight with sunset encroaching on the 6:00 hour. Now even with the rise in the average high and low, the month of February does average 0.5” of snow so we’ll see how that goes for us. Don’t get your hopes up for that we haven’t seen any snow in February since 2016 where a trace was recorded. Though 8.8” fell in February 2015 so I guess there’s a chance.
