University of North Alabama head coach Chris Willis said he was pleased with what he saw in the team’s scrimmage Saturday and felt the Lions were showing improvement.
“We’re not ready for a game yet but we’re a lot closer than we were,” Willis said. “I liked what I saw.”
After watching the defense dominate the team’s scrimmage at Braly Stadium a week ago, Willis said he saw more balance this week.
“This Saturday looked a lot better,” he said. “For the first half or first 35 plays, the defense still dominated and kept everything contained, but the offense did not turn the ball over. That flipped in the second half and the offense was able to make some plays.”
Willis said he was disappointed in the number of quarterback sacks during the scrimmage and said, while the line could do a better job protecting, the quarterbacks need to get rid of the ball.
The defense recorded a safety in the scrimmage, while the offense tallied five touchdowns and a field goal.
