The Gulf South Conference announced its 2019-20 Women’s Basketball Release on Thursday, revealing the Preseason All-Conference Teams, the results for the predicted order of finish, and the league’s top newcomers.

In the preseason poll conducted by the league’s head coaches, Lee picks up nine first-place votes en route to being the preseason favorite, while Union accumulates the other four first-place nods to be picked second. West Florida is in third, with Delta State following behind at No. 4.

The fifth, sixth, and seventh teams in the poll are separated by just four points with Valdosta State’s 87 placing them fifth. At sixth with 85 points is West Georgia, while the Chargers are in seventh at 83 points.

West Alabama, Montevallo, and Auburn Montgomery round out the top 10, and the poll is completed by Mississippi College, Christian Brothers, and Shorter.

On the league’s list of top newcomers, head coach Andrea Lemmond‘s team is represented by Abbi Holley and Taylor Maxwell. Holley is a true freshman from Tuscumbia, Alabama, and Deshler High School, while Maxwell hails from Jackson, Tennessee, where she played at Trinity Christian Academy prior to enrolling at UAH this fall.

The Chargers will open the preseason officially with their first practice on Oct. 15, and the team will begin the 2019-20 campaign at Florida Southern on Nov. 8.
