UAH Softball to make 15th Straight NCAA Appearance

The University of Alabama in Huntsville softball team has earned the program’s 15th straight NCAA tournament berth as the field for the national postseason event was announced by the NCAA Division II Softball Committee on Monday morning.

The appearance will mark UAH’s 20th overall in the 22-year history of Charger softball.

The Chargers will be the third seed in the tournament and will travel to the NCAA South 2 Region that will be hosted by second-seeded Saint Leo. Also at the site will be the No. 6 seed Lee who will be UAH’s first opponent in the double-elimination tournament along with seventh-seeded North Alabama who will play Saint Leo.

Thursday’s contest is slated for a 1:30 p.m. first pitch.

At the NCAA South 1 Regional in Pensacola, top-seeded West Florida will serve as the host, welcoming the No. 4 seed Mississippi College, fifth-seeded Valdosta State, and No. 8 seed Claflin.

The Gulf South Conference has the maximum of six teams in the field with the other two spots being automatic qualifiers as the champions of the Sunshine State Conference and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.

UAH earned the berth as an at-large selection after posting a strong season that has seen the team go 41-15 while winning the GSC regular season title and finishing as the runner-up at the GSC tournament.
