HUNTSVILLE — Opening kickoff of the college football season is quickly approaching.

There only are 52 days remaining before Alabama A&M kicks off the 2019 season with Morehouse in the Black College Football Hall of Fame Classic in Canton, Ohio.

Now that the season’s start is on the immediate horizon, the college football conversation is gaining steam.

Which means it is time for each conference to hold their annual media day events.

The Southwestern Athletic Conference is holding its Football Media Day on Tuesday at the Westin in downtown Birmingham. Media activities begin at 10 a.m.

Connell Maynor will be making his second SWAC Media Day appearance as Alabama A&M’s football coach.

Since taking over the Alabama A&M program, Maynor has generated lots of excitement in Huntsville. Last season, he led Alabama A&M to a 6-5 finish while keeping the Bulldogs in contention for one of the top spots in the SWAC’s Eastern Division.

With several players returning on both side of the football, Alabama A&M enters the 2019 season with championship aspirations.

The two players Alabama A&M is bringing to SWAC Football Media Day are quarterback Aqeel Glass and linebacker Armoni Holloway.

Holloway led the SWAC in tackles last season with 108, averaging 9.8 tackles per game. The junior from Pinson, Ala. was a first-team all conference selection at linebacker.

As a sophomore last season, Glass enjoyed a breakout season, leading the SWAC in passing with 2,426 yards and 20 touchdowns. He was a second-team all-conference selection.
