Airbnb is one of the fastest growing options for travelers with more than 260 million guests booked and stayed across the world. But, Airbnb prices increased 5.4% over the past year; while hotel rates rose less than 1%.
Are hotels a thing of the past?
When it’s time to book a place to stay, you have to think about what’s important to you.
Generally for large travel groups, Airbnb is the way to go. You can rent anything from a single room, to a house, and split the cost. Which means you could have access to a full kitchen, make a trip to the grocery store and save on eating out.
But, if you’re traveling alone or in a small family with kids who may need extra sheets towels, and cleaning service, and toiletries– a hotel might be for you.
Airbnb’s reputation for affordable pricing is gaining attention. Some units can be rented for as little as $14 a night. Airbnb’s average price per night is $80.
But, where you’re looking to go, might affect the price you pay.
According to a study done by Business Insider, an Airbnb would be your best bet if you’re staying in the northern part of the country. In cities like NYC or Boston, an Airbnb would costs just about $170 , while a night in a hotel would be around $230.
And if you’re headed to the south, the numbers are flipped. If you’re looking to stay in Austin or New Orleans, an Airbnb will cost you around $240, while a stay in a hotel would only run you just $170.
