Good evening Tennessee Valley and a very Happy Saturday! A few sprinkles this afternoon across the Tennessee Valley, but generally a quiet day with temperatures just above average. The official high today at the Huntsville International Airport was 56 degrees.
Much improved weather will be the presiding theme as we finish the weekend and head into the new workweek. The area of low pressure that has been responsible for the rain will continue to push northeast through the day Sunday, and that should bring with it significant clearing from west to east. That means some of us will get to see more sunshine than others. That also means some will warmup more. Highs across NW Alabama will be in the mid and even upper 50s while highs across NE Alabama will be in the lower 50s.
A large ridge will begin to develop to our west tomorrow which will usher in more northerly and drier air to start the workweek. This will keep us mostly with temperatures in the mid and upper 50s for Monday and Tuesday of next week.
Thinking about Wednesday things begin o get interesting. The ridge will begin to flatten on Tuesday as an upper level trough begins to develop over the SW United States. Thinking about Wednesday that system will weaken from the closed low status it’ll achieve on Tuesday. While it does that it’ll begin to push its way east. While all this is going on there will be a much strong upper level trough taking shape well to the north that will drop south through the day Wednesday.
These two upper level systems will merge late Wednesday and early Thursday. This will sharply increase southwest flow into the Tennessee Valley, which brings in our next chance of rain late Wednesday. With this bigger upper level system I did notice some strengthening and it should become a closed low late next week. At the 850mb level I also noticed a cold front that looked to push through the Tennessee Valley late Thursday or early Friday. That will prevent temperatures from moving much on Friday and highs look to only make it into the mid-40s. Once again, widespread rain looks to be a staple Thursday as well. Again we don’t need the rain. As of today Huntsville has seen 4.96” so far this month.
This system doesn’t plan to stick around long, and next Saturday should bring sunny skies.
