‘Wacky’ cart 5K taking sign-ups to help the homeless

News

One of Huntsville’s wackiest races is taking sign-ups so you can speed through town for a good cause.

The Downtown Rescue Mission’s Carts4Hearts 5K to help the homeless means dressing up yourself and a shopping cart. Astronauts, nuns, hippies, and hunters are just some of the teams from years past.

“There’s nothing like it anywhere in the south,” said Tonia Kamardella with the DRM. “Six people and a shopping cart, all heavily decorated, running through downtown Huntsville, and the teams raise food, funds, and awareness for the mission. So it’s totally different and it’s a lot of fun.”

Carts4Hearts is just a few weeks away on March 9th. Twenty teams can register with the goal of raising 20-thousand dollars and 10-thousand pounds of food.
