Volunteers sew weighted blankets for special needs classrooms

Weighted blankets can be a great calming tool for special needs children, and Carden Mayfield is making sure more kids have access to them.

She calls them Cuddle Buddies Weighted Blankets. About six months ago, Mayfield asked for help from the community to start making the weighted blankets to give away. Each one takes about six hours to complete.

Mayfield says a student she met during her time working for an extended day program inspired the idea.

She met her goal today and will be donating all 54 hand sewn blankets to special education classrooms in Madison City Schools.
