Victim’s name released in New Hope house fire

News

Madison County Sheriff’s deputies and the State Fire Marshal are investigating what caused a house fire that left one person dead.

The victim was Ray Miller, age 61. His wife Lynelle Miller, also 61, survived with no injuries.

The fire started just after midnight Tuesday in a home at 1763 New Hope Cedar Point Road in New Hope.

Officials tell WZDX that a woman in the house was awakened by her cat.

She discovered a fire had started near a space heater and tried to put it out.

She woke up her husband and ran next door to call 911.

He was overcome by smoke and died in the fire.

Their animals did survive.
