29-year-old Devron Lashawn Booker is in custody after leading police on a chase through south Huntsville that ultimately ended on Memorial Pkwy near Meadowbrook.
Huntsville Police spokesperson Michael Johnson told WZDX that this morning an officer spotted the driver driving recklessly and tried to pull him over.
A short chase ensued during which the suspect fired at least one shot at the officer.
Fortunately, no one was injured.
This initial pursuit was canceled out of concern for the driving public and the high speeds of the suspect. The car has been confirmed to be the one involved in a Monday night carjacking in which Booker is a suspect.
A short time later, 911 calls started coming in about the car and its location. A plainclothes officer in a plain car followed it until patrol officers arrived.
More shots were fired from the suspect’s car during the 15-20 minute pursuit that followed.
The pursuit ended near Meadowbrook where Booker was taken into custody. The handgun he is believed to have used was recovered when he threw it out of the vehicle before it came to a stop.
According to HPD, he had to be tazed. He was taken to the hospital, released, and taken back to the hospital. HPD states that he was not injured during the pursuit or arrest but is believed to be under the influence of something, and that is the reason for the return trip to the hospital.
No one else was in the vehicle.
WZDX’s Kelly Kennedy was live on the scene Wednesday morning.
