Tuscumbia PD’s new bloodhound to sniff out missing persons

The newest member of the Tuscumbia Police Department has four legs and a nose that’s already tracking people down.

Eli the bloodhound has helped find a thief who stole mail and a person apparently fleeing police. Officer John Woodrum says there wasn’t a police canine search and rescue unit in the area. Eli will fill that gap.

All he needs is a good sniff of what’s inside a scent evidence kit and he can hunt down someone who goes missing.

“We will use these scent evidence kits when people go missing and introduce him to that scent and he will trail that scent and hopefully he can help us find some missing persons,” Woodrum said.

Eli is living with and being trained by Woodrum. Anyone who is worried about their loved one wandering off can get a scent evidence kit.
