Tips to lower your hot weather energy costs

You should expect to pay a little more on your utility bill this month because of the heat, but we have some tips for you to bring down the cost.

Huntsville Utilities officials advise to close your blinds and do your cooking outside on the grill. Avoid heating things up inside like on the oven so it doesn’t heat up your home.

They also say not to adjust your thermostat too much. Joe Gehrdes, HU spokesperson, says, “Put it where it’s comfortable and leave it there because if you’re constantly adjusting it your unit’s fighting against you and that can end up putting some undue stress on your HVAC equipment and perhaps costing you more money.”

And don’t forget to replace or clean your air filters, turn on that ceiling fan, and seal up any places where there could be air leaks.
