Alabama sex offenders subject to the state’s Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act can be arrested for failing to comply with the rules.

This is what happened to Jason Brandon Phillips in Decatur. According to Decatur Police, Phillips was convicted of sexual misconduct on Nov. 2016, which made him subject to SORNA requirements of registering/verifying all required information in his birth month and every three months. He most recently registered on July 18, 2019.

An arrest warrant was obtained for Phillips after he failed to register in October. He was arrested on Nov. 7 and taken to the Morgan County Jail. Because this was a probation violation, he is being held on no bond.

Failure to comply with SORNA rules is a Class C Felony, the lowest level of felony.
