Hundreds of thousands of gallons of sewage from Decatur gushed from manholes into ditches, creeks, and eventually into the Tennessee River in mid-December.
Decatur Utilities says most of the sewage was discharged the weekend before Christmas when several inches of rain fell.
Athens Utilities reported no overflow issues and the much larger Huntsville Utilities only had four overflows totaling six thousand gallons.
DU says it replaced more than four miles of sewer main last year.
The state Attorney General’s office sued the utility back in May, claiming it owes the state hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines for overflow violations.
