Senator Doug Jones introduced a new bill Tuesday to help the teacher shortage crisis in rural Alabama, and communities across the country.
The “Classrooms Reflecting Communities Act” would provide federal support to establish programs that would recruit diverse teacher candidates.
State school superintendents recently reported that elementary teachers are becoming difficult to find, especially in rural parts of the state. In 70 Alabama schools, at least 10% of the teachers are working without full certification.
